Dorothy leads Public Affairs at DeepMind. She has spent her career building social justice, ethics, & accountability structures at technology companies, including the first Transparency Report—an industry standard that more than 70 technology companies use to show how laws and corporate policies affect free expression and privacy online. Prior to DeepMind, Dorothy was responsible for policy development at Uber on issues related to consumer protection, safety, & self-driving cars. She also led corporate communications at Dropbox, and worked in various roles across communications and public policy for seven years at Google. Outside of work, she is working toward a Master’s in Bioethics at the University of Oxford and is an angel investor with Atomico, a leading European venture capital firm. Dorothy holds a B.S. in International Politics from Georgetown University's Walsh School of Foreign Service.
Ian Mulvany is CTO at BMJ. Previously he was head of transformation at SAGE Publishing. He helped setup SAGE’s methods innovation incubator SAGE Ocean following a lean product development approach. He ran technology operations for eLife, was head of product for Mendeley and ran a number of early web2.0 products for Nature Publishing Group.
He is passionate about creating digital tools that support the research enterprise. He is interested in the interplay between different stakeholders that can lead to the sustainably of these kinds of tools.
Marta has been a research scientist at DeepMind for over 6 years. During this time her research revolved primarily around deep generative models, few-shot learning and multiagent reinforcement learning. Prior to DeepMind Marta obtained her PhD in artificial intelligence from Imperial College London. Marta fills up her spare time with a range of strange hobbies including playing analog synths, meditating and freediving.
Alistair Garfoot is the Director of Intelligence Architecture at Mind Foundry, where his deep understanding of customer needs, and experience operationalising AI, bridge the gap between real-world customer problems and optimal technical solutions. On the weekends, you can often find him cycling through the English countryside.
